The purpose of Besesaka is to improve education in Bukom through the power of boxing. Established in 2019, the non-profit organization aims to build a Boxucation academy, where boxing is as important as education by the end of 2023. Until then we grant scholarships to children, who are talented boxers and therefore at a risk of dropping out of school at a very early age to focus on boxing.
To develop a new Bukom where all children attend school and graduate,
resulting in the elimination of teenage pregnancy and child labor.
Besesaka’s core values are based on the culture of Bukom.
. Community Support
Fighting has been part of the Ga tribe long before boxing was introduce to the people of Bukom. Back then, asafo atwele, a form of group fighting, was a language that everyone spoke as it threads through every activity within the tribe. It was a way to elect leaders within the community, to protect one’s family, and to entertain the public.
When boxing was introduced to the Ga tribe in the 19th century, it was a perfect fit as they were already accustomed to fighting. Boxing has become the replacement of the traditional group fighting. It is the new asafo atwele in Bukom. It is one thing that connects the whole community together.
Every child in the town dreams of becoming the next world title holder for Ghana, a dream that came true for 7 members of the community who are held in high esteem.
Education is key to future economic growth and lasting democracy, leading to greater stability and improved standards of living.
